How to prepare DUKORAL®

Do not eat or drink 1 hour before or 1 hour after taking DUKORAL®.

Prepare the buffer solution: Open the buffer sachet and dissolve the granules in 5 oz (150 mL) of cool water. Do not use any other liquid.

For children 2 to 6 years old: Pour away half of the mixture (75 mL) before proceeding to Step 2.

Mix the vaccine well by shaking the small glass vial that contains it.

How to prepare DUKORAL®

Mix the vaccine with the buffer solution: Open one vial and add the vaccine to the buffer solution (water and granule mixture) in the glass. Stir well and drink this mixture immediately. If the mixture is not drunk immediately, it should be consumed within 2 hours of mixing. Keep it at room temperature. Do not use after expiration date.

When to Take DUKORAL® to Prevent Diarrhea Caused by LT-producing ETEC


2 doses at least 1 week (up to 6 weeks) apart
starting no later than 2 weeks before travel

DUKORAL® is the only oral vaccine available that provides you with protection against diarrhea caused by heat-labile producing enterotoxigenic E. coli (LT-producing ETEC). DUKORAL® is suitable for most adults, and may be prescribed to children as young as 2 years old.

DUKORAL® is a drinkable vaccine. A full immunization requires 2 doses orally (by mouth) taken at least 1 week (up to 6 weeks) apart, with the last dose taken at least 1 week before travel.

It is important that you take DUKORAL® at the right time.

You should take two doses of DUKORAL® orally at least 1 week (up to 6 weeks) apart. Protection starts about 1 week after the second dose and lasts for about 3 months. Make sure that you take the 2nd dose of vaccine at least 1 week after the 1st dose and at least 1 week before leaving on your trip.

When to Take DUKORAL® to Prevent Cholera

It is important that you take DUKORAL® at the right time.

Adults and children 6 years and older should take two doses of DUKORAL® orally (by mouth) at least one week (up to 6 weeks) apart. Children 2 to 6 years should take three doses of DUKORAL® at least one week (up to 6 weeks) apart started at least 3 weeks before the trip.

Protection starts about 1 week after the last dose and lasts for about 2 years in adults and children 6 years and older, and for about 6 months in children who are 2 to 6 years old. Make sure that you take the last dose of vaccine at least 1 week after the first dose and at least 1 week before leaving on your trip.
